Adult roller skating lessons are finally here! No kids! They are held every Monday evening from 6pm to 7:30pm. Check our schedule for holiday weeks and school breaks. View schedule here.
Prerequisites for the Lessons from 6pm – 7:30pm:
Enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and an inquisitive mind! These classes are for everyone, from beginner to expert. Our lead instructor personally uses these simple tools every time she skates, to make herself a better skater.
We will also cover:
Forward skating, Crossovers left/right, Backwards Skating, comfortable with stopping forwards/backwards, able to transition forward/backward and vice versa. Each class will be tailored based on the skill level of the group.
Special guest skater workshops may have different requirements, those will be posted with each individual workshop.
Each session starts promptly at 6pm. We suggest that you arrive at least 15 minutes early to have your skates on and ready.
Ages 18+ welcome!
Cost for an individual session: $20.00 (roller skate rental included)
No registration required. Start anytime!
A note from the Program Director:
Welcome to roller skate lessons at Cheap Skate! My name is Angela Higgins (@hazmat.circus on social media). I am originally from Coon Rapids and members of my family have been in the local skate community for decades. I am a professional circus artist and aerial acrobatics coach by trade, and I own the adult circus school Dragons Lair Performing Arts in Minneapolis.
I’ve been skating since 2011, and I’ve dedicated most of my time to exploring different types of roller skating styles and honing my skills. My style is a mashup of classic figure skating / JB style skating / Jam Skating / Gymnastics / Ballet moves. I’m excited to share what I’ve learned!
All classes will start with edge drills, posture practice, and skate inspection. I will also teach you how skates work, why they are built the way they are built, and how to properly use them to maximize learning potential. We will also go into skate maintenance and equipment options for different styles and surfaces.
I will also take “trick” requests from Intermediate/Advanced students. I encourage you all to ask many questions, and I encourage personal exploration. Above all, I strive to provide a judgement-free learning environment where you can feel safe and comfortable, surrounded by peers of a similar level while you learn this amazing and valuable skill.
Roller Skating is for life!
